Our communities will provide you with a wide range of communications services, including:
  • Mobile and Home Phone Services
  • Internet
  • Television and Radio
  • Newspaper

Mobile and Home Phone
All communities in the Irish Loop have access to modern and reliable home phone service, and cellular service is also available in most communities. However, due to hilly terrain and distance from cell site antennas, there are some 'dead zones'. Please refer to our community profile pages for cellular coverage in each individual community.

Internet
High speed DSL and Cable internet is available in most areas and, for those towns without high speed access, dial-up internet is available. As well, Newfoundland and Labrador's Community Access Program (CAP) has established a network of community-based public internet facilities that offer free access to computers and internet. CAP sites in the region can be found in: Riverhead, St. Mary's, Trepassey, Ferryland and Witless Bay.

Television and Radio Services
Cable and satellite television is available throughout the region from reliable service providers such as Bell Aliant, Shaw Direct, and Eastlink. There is a wide range of AM and FM stations that broadcast to the region and, with the advent of internet and satellite radio, you can easily access your favorite music, news and talk radio shows from just about anywhere in the world.

Newspaper
Within the region, The Irish Loop Post publishes a monthly newspaper featuring local stories and news items. The most widely read provincial newspaper is The Telegram, which is published daily and is available for home delivery in the region. National daily newspapers such as the Globe and Mail and The National Post are also available, but only in select communities.
